Faculty Roles & Benefits

At EHS, a 100% boarding school located just outside of Washington, D.C. in the bustling city of Alexandria, faculty members contribute not only to the academic program, but also to our athletics, extracurricular, and residential programs. We seek candidates who have not only a passion for teaching, but also excitement and joy for living with and teaching adolescents. 


Typical responsibilities of an EHS faculty member include the following:
  • Four class sections or the equivalent of administrative duties
  • Two seasons of athletic coaching or two seasons of a major, non-athletic extracurricular program
  • Dormitory duty once a week
  • Weekend dormitory duty once every six weekends
  • Participation in school committees and activities
  • Episcopal High School seeks employees of any race, color, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, and national or ethnic origin.

Benefits for full-time faculty include the following:
  • All meals in the dining hall while school is in session
  • Advanced degree tuition and other professional development support
  • Housing on campus or a stipend for off-campus housing, if housing is not available
  • 100% tuition remission for faculty children attending EHS
  • Medical Insurance
    • The School offers two medical plans (Open Access Plus and High-Deductible Health Plan with HSA).
  • Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA)
    • Both medical plans have an associated HRA benefit component.
  • Health Savings Account
    • The School offers a generous annual contribution into employee HSA accounts.
  • Dental Insurance
    • The School offers one dental plan for all benefit-eligible employees.
  • Vision Insurance
    • The School offers a voluntary vision plan that provides an allowance for glasses/contacts.
  • Retirement Plan
    • The School contributes 7.5% of base wages for employees 30 years of age or older (or with 2+ years of service).
    • Beyond the initial contribution, the School matches employee contributions at a rate of 50% up to an additional 2.5%, for a maximum School contribution of 10%.
    • Both pre-tax and Roth employee contribution options are available.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
    • The School offers three types of flexible spending accounts — Healthcare FSA, Limited Purpose FSA, and Dependent Care / Daycare FSA.
  • Basic Life Insurance
    • The School pays the premiums for term life insurance equal to 2x the employee’s base salary.
  • Voluntary Life Insurance
    • Employees can add up to $250,000 to the basic life insurance coverage.
    • Voluntary life insurance coverage is also available for spouses (up to $50,000) and children (up to $10,000).
  • Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D)
    • The School pays the premiums for AD&D insurance.
  • Short-term Disability
    • The School pays the premiums on an STD policy for the employee.
    • Benefits will begin after 7 calendar days of disability, and continue for up to 13 weeks, as long as the employee remains disabled.
    • If totally disabled, the benefit will replace 100% of the employee’s base salary.
  • Long-term Disability
    • The School pays the premiums.
    • After 90 days of illness, employees receive 60% of their monthly base salary until they are able to perform the duties of their position, not exceeding age 65.
  • AFLAC
    • The School offers three Aflac plans: Accident Insurance, Hospital Indemnity Insurance, and Critical Illness Insurance (Employee and Spouse).
  • Legal Services Benefit
    • The School offers a plan through Legal Resources that provides attorney fees for legal services that are either covered at 100% or discounted 25% depending on the legal matter.

Ten Years of the MLK Symposium

Thanks to Episcopal’s Office of Community and Equity (OCE), our community has enjoyed ten years of MLK Symposia, annual campus-wide initiatives designed to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and celebrate his legacy and ideals. This year’s theme was “Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community?,” taken from the titular — and timely — query of Dr. King’s final book.

Lantern Festival Brings Chinese Culture to Life

Students in Julie Wang’s Chinese classes recently visited the Winter Lantern Festival in Tysons Corner ahead of the Chinese New Year in February. The class walked through hundreds of handcrafted lanterns illuminated by LED lights and viewed the larger-than-life lanterns featuring Chinese cultural symbols that the students had been learning about.

Inaugural "EHS Ninth Grade Civics Day" Introduces Students to Alexandria and D.C.

Ninth-grade class experienced their first-ever "Civics Day" on October 1, visiting both Alexandria City Hall and the U.S. Supreme Court to bring their civics coursework to life. Students met with Mayor Alyia Gaskins to learn about local government, then traveled to the Supreme Court for a private courtroom session and Q&A with an Associate Justice. The Power of Memorials

Students in Jessie George’s Advanced Research Seminar: World War & European Society class explored how societies remember and memorialize war. After studying World War I and the Paris Peace Conference, they visited several D.C. war memorials to analyze how history and emotion are conveyed through design. Students are now applying their insights by creating their own WWI memorial concepts for the National Mall.
